U.S. Taekwondo Centers has a longstanding history in the Colorado Springs community. Since opening its first location in 1986 on North Academy Boulevard, U.S. Taekwondo Centers has grown to open five local gyms, including its most recent location on the corner of Stetson Hills and Powers.
The founder, Grandmaster Sang Chul Lee, served as the U.S. national taekwondo coach from 1979 to 1988. As coach, he led the first U.S. Olympic Taekwondo Team during the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, where the women’s team placed first and the men’s team placed second.
Master Jay Lee—one of Sang and Soon Lee’s four sons—serves as President and CEO for the five Colorado Springs locations.
